I recorded this one after being a guest on two other podcasts in a single day. Something became clear across those conversations, clear enough that I sat straight down and made this episode before the clarity passed. So often we are caught up in the busyness of life that we stop listening to ourselves, our bodies, our emotions, our actual needs.
The Sacred Pause
Before you answer a request, whether it is your child, your partner, or an email waiting for a reply, take a moment to slow down. Not to overthink it, just to actually feel what your body is telling you before your habit answers for you. Most of us skip this step entirely and say yes on autopilot.
A Somatic Anchor Practice
Here is a simple, repeatable practice: place a hand on your chest, take one slower breath than feels necessary, and ask your body, not your obligations, what it actually wants to say. This takes seconds. It changes the answer more often than people expect.
Recognising Override Moments
Think back over the last week to moments you said yes when your body was quietly saying no. Do not judge yourself for it, override is a trained pattern, not a character flaw. Just notice it. Noticing is what starts to reverse it.
Saying no when you mean it is not selfish. It is essential to your emotional and energetic wellbeing, and it teaches everyone around you what your actual boundaries are, instead of training them on a version of you who never has any.
"Your first instinct is usually your body's most honest answer. Learn to trust it before the override kicks in."
