I Know Exactly What's Wrong. Why Can't I Make Myself Do It?

It is 2am and you already know. Knowing was never the thing standing in your way. Here is what is holding the brake, and the smallest act that releases it.

You are lying awake at 2am and you already know. You know what is wrong. You could write the list. You know what would help, because you have read the books, listened to the episodes, taken the notes. In the morning you do none of it. You make the coffee. You are kind. You let another day go by, telling yourself you will start when things are calmer.

I teach The Touch Reset, for people who love someone and cannot find the door back in. Let me say your question back to you in your own words. I know exactly what is wrong and what would help. Why can't I make myself do it?

Knowing Was Never What Stood in Your Way

This is the part that changes everything. What stops you is fear, and it lives in the body. The moment you act, you admit one thing out loud. This is not fine as it is. That small sentence threatens the whole shape of your life, the house, the routine, the version of the story you have told everyone. Your nervous system feels the threat and does the most protective thing it knows. It freezes. It waits.

That freeze is a Stage Two brace, the half second where the body tightens before you even decide. You have been meeting it every single morning. It is not weakness, and it is not a failure of understanding. Knowing what to do is not the same as being able to do it. I have written the longer version of this at I already know what is wrong, so why can't I act on it, and this episode is the audio companion to it.

Why Waiting for Him to Change First Feels Productive

So you tell yourself a quieter story. You will do it when he changes first. When he reaches for you, then you will open. It feels productive. It feels like patience. What it actually does is keep the power to change your life sitting outside you, in him, where you never have to pick it up.

I have watched a woman carry the same insight for three years without moving, then move inside a week once there was a structure to move in. The ones who shift are the ones who got a small thing to do, in the body, that their nervous system could feel. A newly qualified coach can hand you the insight. I work in the part the insight does not reach.

Touch Base: Two Minutes That Prove You Can Move

So we do not start with the big conversation. A braced body cannot leap into the big conversation. We start with one small act that is entirely yours. It is called Touch Base. Thumb to forefinger, your own hand, two minutes, slow. Bring the fingers together slowly, feel them meet, breathe. You are not fixing anything. You are proving one thing to your nervous system. I can choose, and I can act. That is agency, in the body, where the freeze lives.

Do it twice a day. It is small on purpose. What matters is that you did the thing you decided to do. Everyone tells you to wait for the spark, or to wait for him. I build you the first small door you can walk through yourself.

"The next time you are awake at 2am, knowing everything and doing nothing, hear me. You do not need more insight. You need one act your body can feel. Your body braced. Patterns can be changed."
