Of the five Touch Languages, the Energetic is the one most people doubt exists, until they feel it. Until someone moves toward them across a room and they feel the charge before there is any contact. Until a hand hovers an inch above their skin and the skin registers more than it would from the hand arriving.

The Energetic language is not fed by quantity of contact. It is fed by quality of approach. Every rushed reach, every casual automatic touch, every physical gesture that skips the energetic build, these register as a kind of static. They interrupt the field rather than building it. • Moving toward her slowly, making sure she knows you are coming before you arrive
• Hovering: bringing a hand close without landing, letting her feel the warmth and the presence before the contact
• Making eye contact across a room and holding it: not moving toward her immediately, letting the connection build in the space between
• Moving toward her ear and breathing slowly, without touching: letting the sensation arrive through the field before it arrives through skin
• Trailing a finger barely above her skin: touching the energy of the surface rather than the surface itself

• You feel people entering rooms before you see them. There is a quality of awareness that precedes visual confirmation
• The most affecting touch you have received was often the slowest: the hover, the approach, the almost
• Contact that skips the build feels blunt, it isn't harmful, it's just missing the thing you were waiting for
• You can feel when someone's attention is on you from across a space, and it registers as a physical sensation
• Eye contact is touch for you. The sustained gaze of someone who genuinely sees you can affect your body as much as physical contact
