Is an intimacy coach right for me?

Answered by Juliette Karaman, intimacy and touch expert.

The short answer

An intimacy coach is right for you when you refuse to live another year like this and will take 100% responsibility for your side of the relationship. Juliette Karaman, intimacy and touch coach in the UK, says no when it isn’t the right fit. If you’re unsure, start small: her podcast, her Substack, One Touch or 31 Days Closer, then a DM before you request a call.

A wife sent her husband to me for a VIP day. He was the CEO of a hedge fund, ex army, and he didn’t understand why he was there. Their intimacy was OK.

She had had an incredible time with me herself, and she recognised I could help him with his fear: claustrophobia, and going into an MRI machine. He had made several appointments and kept cancelling them.

When he came to me, he knew how to answer every question. He turned each one around, and he found it really hard to let go. Then, during the hypnosis, he let go of the little boy who had been trapped when he was young.

We had one more session online. He booked his MRI. I taught him Touch Base®, and he stayed calm.

His wife called me afterwards and asked what I had done. He had always been steady, she said. Now he was actually fully present with the whole family.

He almost didn’t come. So if you’re asking whether an intimacy coach is right for you, here is how I answer.

How do I know if I’m ready for an intimacy coach?

You’re ready when you refuse to live another year like this, and you’re willing to put in the effort and stick with it.

That’s exactly why I don’t do one-off sessions or weekly coaching. We can go into your past. We don’t have to walk around the same block every week.

What does 100/100 mean?

I teach 100/100. Each of you brings all of yourself to the relationship, every time. It can be a bit of a shock.

I will call it out when you’re blaming or shaming. I won’t take you on unless you take 100% responsibility for your part.

When is an intimacy coach not right for you?

I do say no. When I feel we aren’t the right fit, I send you on to someone I can recommend.

If you want something specific that sits outside my work, I outsource it.

What do people try before an intimacy coach?

The people who come to me have tried:

Nothing sticks. It feels good in the moment, there’s no follow-through, and two to four weeks later they’re back to square one.

What’s different about working with you?

With me you get the change in the moment. You also leave with lasting tools you can keep using, the way that CEO used Touch Base in the MRI.

How do I find out if you’re the right intimacy coach for me?

He cancelled the MRI several times. After two sessions, he booked it.
